Sierra Malnove was given her first beehive in 2012 by a bee specialist and since then it\u2019s been all about the bees (and honey). It was that same bee specialist that recommended Sierra after a talk he gave at Broken Sound Country Club led them to want to get into the bee business. They had bee needs and she wanted more bees, a perfect match.<\/p>\n

Now nine years later Sierra tends to bees at 28 golf and country club communities throughout Southern Florida as well as numerous private clients. \u201cBackyard beekeeping is becoming very trendy,\u201d Sierra enthuses, \u201cthere\u2019s over 5000 registered beekeepers in Florida and many \u201cover winter\u201d their bees in Florida.\u201d\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThere\u2019s so much diversity [at the clubs], a real safe haven for the bees, a visual buffet for the eyes and an actual buffet for the bees. What attracts the members in the first place visually is coming full circle to something they can actually taste.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cBallenIsles Country Club was going to get rid of a portion of saw palmetto during renovations,\u201d Sierra explains, \u201cI took them out there during bloom and they saw ten different species of pollinator and then they tasted the honey fresh out the box, it changed their mind and they kept the saw palmetto.\u201d<\/p>\n

The small batch honey that Sierra will extract and prepare at her Kosher Certified Palm Beach Creamed Honey facility are truly all unique. \u201cEvery location is totally different \u2013 native, tropical, maybe a majority palms, what kind of annuals and perennials do they use? And it will all produce different flavored honey.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI have three locations in Admirals Cove so close to the water the bees make mangrove honey, it\u2019s a really special batch,\u201d Sierra says. \u201cI like to touch base with every department, golf maintenance, the general manager, chefs and bartenders to see how they all can utilize the honey. Utilizing honey as amenities or gifts, food and drinks, the spa; the programs also can help clubs get and maintain their Audubon Certification.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cAdmirals Cove is implementing the honey into facials,\u201d She says, \u201cinfused with rose hips and 25 carat gold, it\u2019s really renewed a sense of awe and interest in the program.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThe club bees are really living their best lives, low stress levels, not being moved around to pollinate, year-round forage, no competition, and they don\u2019t have to be artificially fed.\u201d<\/p>\n

And the last time she was stung?<\/p>\n

\u201cYesterday, right on the nose!\u201d Sierra pauses, \u201cthere\u2019s no managing the bees, it grounded me, you can\u2019t be mad at the bees. What you give off is what you get back. It\u2019s the vibe in the air. I want to be the happy bee lady.\u201d<\/p>\n
