The Garden of Eatin’

The organic farm to table trend has conquered restaurants from the poshest Michelin starred eateries to the hippest gastropubs, providing the best and freshest produce that money can buy. A commendable practice, enhancing sustainability, boosting the local economy, health and (not least of all) flavor. What if instead of farm to table it was simple as backyard to table? Imagine the freshest, tastiest Florida fruits and vegetables just steps from your kitchen. If the prospect of your own “Edible Landscape” sounds appealing (or a-pealing), then Urban Abundance should be the next project on your gardening/landscaping to-do list.
Imagine, instead of just another plot of grass, a holistic, all-organic biodiverse forest of the most succulent, nutrient dense, organic fruits and vegetables in your yard, and this one is open for the picking everyday instead of just one day a week. That is exactly what Farmer Jack and his dedicated Urban Abundance crew provide: a turnkey garden that will keep your produce drawer stocked daily, your salads the talk of the town, and crudité platters to rival the fanciest vegetarian establishments.
Serving Martin, Palm Beach, and Broward counties, Urban Abundance handles every step of the process to create and maintain your personal organic homestead. From consulting to grass removal, box and soil installation, to planning and planting they take the guess work (and hard work) out of growing and nurturing your own cornucopia of the finest organic fruits and vegetables…. all you have to do is enjoy the taste and beauty. Urban Abundance’s maintenance plan also offers ongoing harvest education, email support and even recipes.
“There are so many types of edible species in South Florida that you can’t find at the grocery store. Some of our favorites include chaya, mulberries, pigeon peas, strawberry fruit and Barbados cherry!” Farmer Jack enthuses, “In addition to variety, we provide with you a level of organic and freshness that is near impossible to achieve from the store.”

For summer harvest they are now planting sweet potatoes, okra, turmeric, onions, different spinaches, and other varieties. Because everything they do is organic, this is also the best time of year to re-nutrient the soils. Once it cools down, they plant cherry tomatoes, arugula, kale, green beans, parsley and other varieties for harvest in the winter season.

Premium services include bi-monthly checkups (pruning and mulching, soil aeration, weeding, etc.) on garden beds and fruit trees (every 6 months) as well as a compost membership that promises the very finest soil for growing and sustaining a garden as well as helping to reduce one’s carbon footprint – another of Urban Abundance’s missions.

How it works:
Step 1 – Design: Urban Abundance collaborates with you to create the garden of your dreams; with the specific plants and foods you want to grow – paying close attention to the details that will set you up for success.
Step 2 – Install: They build your garden from the ground up…. Setting the foundation with proper irrigation, super charged soil, and all the equipment needed to get going right now.
Step 3 – Maintain: They will come by your house every other week to make sure your garden is thriving, tending to weeds, pruning and other maintenance items.
Step 4 – Learn: After each visit, they send a detailed email outlining what they did and giving some additional tips and suggestions. They are always available to answer questions and empower you in the garden so you can learn and get better each season.
Step 5 – Harvest: This is what it is all about – consuming food the way Mother Nature intended! The best, most organic food for you and your family to enjoy.
