With its distinctive mix of artistry and sophistication, Ro Sham Beaux continues to redefine luxury lighting in West Palm Beach and across South Florida.

LHM had an illuminated moment with Yancy:

Q. What inspired you to create Ro Sham Beaux, and how has the brand evolved since its founding?
My path to lighting design began in the world of fine art. At the Portland School of Art, I focused on sculpture, metalsmithing, and jewelry-making, where I developed an early appreciation for proportion, materiality, and handcrafted detail. After starting my career as a jewelry designer in New York City, I became drawn to creating pieces that could shape an entire space. Lighting design offered the perfect opportunity to combine artistry and function while working at a larger, architectural scale.

What began as a small workshop in Charleston has since grown into an internationally recognized lighting brand. Ro Sham Beaux distinguishes itself through its use of thoughtful, eco-conscious materials such as semi-precious stones, hemp, recycled glass, and rattan — paired with a commitment to craftsmanship and Customization. Today, Ro Sham Beaux’s fixtures illuminate residences, boutique hotels, and design-forward commercial spaces around the world, and the company has expanded with showrooms in Charleston, Palm Beach, and the Dallas Market Center. Ro Sham Beaux has never been about chasing trends, but about refining a philosophy: that luxury lighting should feel timeless, intentional, and deeply connected to the materials and hands that create it.

For me, the evolution of Ro Sham Beaux has never been about chasing trends, but about refining a philosophy: that luxury lighting should feel timeless, deliberate, and deeply connected to the materials and hands that create it.

Q. You’ve described lighting as the “jewelry of the home.” How do you approach designing pieces that feel both functional and artistic?
My goal is to create heirloom-quality pieces that endure — not just in design, but in meaning. This philosophy informs every piece we create. Like fine jewelry, lighting has the power to enhance its surroundings and become a defining element within a space.

Q. Ro Sham Beaux is known for its use of natural materials like quartz, hemp, and recycled glass. What draws you to these elements, and how do they shape the brand’s aesthetic?
Natural materials bring texture, depth, and a sense of authenticity that you simply can’t replicate with synthetic materials. Each one interacts with light differently — quartz can catch and refract it, while recycled glass softens and diffuses it in a beautiful way. Those materials also help define the overall aesthetic of Ro Sham Beaux. There’s an organic quality to them that makes the pieces feel warm, layered, and timeless rather than overly polished or trend-driven. At the same time, using materials like recycled glass reflects our commitment to thoughtful sourcing and responsible design.

Q. What lighting trends are captivating you right now?

Designers seem to be leaning more deeply into their clients’ individual tastes and lifestyles, creating spaces that feel uniquely tailored rather than formulaic. Regardless of the size or scale of a home, there’s a greater emphasis on personality and storytelling in interiors today — and lighting plays an important role in expressing that. Materials like alabaster and spherical fixtures that conceal the LED source are becoming very popular. They create a beautifully clean silhouette while subtly nodding to mid-century design. There’s also a growing interest in softer, more tactile elements. I’m noticing more gathered fabrics used for shades and pendants, which brings a sense of warmth and comfort to a space. It’s a beautiful contrast to the harder materials we often see in architecture and furnishings.

Q. With Ro Sham Beaux expanding into West Palm Beach, what are you most excited to bring to the local design community?
Palm Beach has such a vibrant and sophisticated design community and we’re excited to become a part of that creative energy. Because every piece is made to order, the showroom becomes a place where designers and customers can truly collaborate with us and creating something truly unique.

Q. For homeowners or designers looking to elevate a space, what is one lighting rule to break?
One of my favorite rules to break is playing with scale. Lighting has an incredible ability to shift the feeling of a space, and sometimes the most memorable designs come from going larger than expected. A generously scaled fixture can create a dramatic focal point and bring a sense of presence to a room. At the same time, the opposite approach can be just as powerful. Choosing something smaller and more restrained — like an exquisitely simple flush mount — can create a quiet elegance that feels incredibly intimate. For me, it’s really about balance and confidence in the choice.
