SUMMER SPLENDOR: A North End Estate Recreates French-Med Glamour

When a prominent Palm Beach couple set out to create their dream luxury estate, they envisioned a home and landscape that would transport residents and guests to another place and time. Designed by Smith Architectural Group with interiors by renowned designer Bunny Williams, the award-winning Palm Beach residence blends French-inspired architecture with timeless elegance. Completed over two years and recognized with Palm Beach’s prestigious 2025 Schuler Award, the estate stands as a showcase of exceptional luxury home design, architecture, and landscape architecture.

SMI Landscape Architecture partner Claudia Visconti and the firm’s founder, Jorge Sanchez, were tasked with melding Provence style with Palm Beach flair. They started with a wall fountain with an antique marble shell sourced in France. It flanks Italian terracotta pots of bougainvillea trees sitting within a perennial border. A verdant carpet of Zoysia grass lawn surrounds the home, along with iconic coconut palms and Luget French limestone paths. These paths feature antique French urns meant to hold seasonal arrangements.

“Our inspiration came from the many trips our firm takes abroad,” says Visconti. “The vision was to create a balance between French forms and a tropical Palm Beach look. We did this by intentionally incorporating native, coastal plants that can withstand the briny conditions to the East and by planting a more varied palette of natives and non-natives on the buffered, western side.”

The pool, situated in the courtyard between the main home and its guest suites, is lined with hand-painted tiles crafted by local artist Dan Droney. In the home’s upper garden, perennial borders give form to a central, open space created for events or children to play. It’s also the ideal spot to watch Florida’s greatest cinematic feature: the peninsula’s popsicle-colored sunsets.

For those looking for fodder to initiate a summer garden refresh, these images will surely ignite imaginations.
