Joujou was born in New Delhi and was educated at Tara Hall, a Catholic boarding school in Simla, the summer capital of India. After completing her undergraduate degree in Economics from the New Delhi University, she was then introduced to her husband-to-be, Piri Chawla, in the traditional “match-making” custom and they were engaged within 14 hours. In 1980, she joined Piri in the United States, living in New York at first and then moving to Texas in 1982 where she started her real estate career. In 1985, they moved to California and settled in Blackhawk where she began working for Blackhawk Properties/Blackhawk Realty.

Her dedication and passion for real estate immediately set her apart from all other agents. In 1991, she obtained her brokerage license and became a co-owner and CFO of the company which was then renamed Blackhawk Real Estate Company. The company achieved sales volumes typically reached by companies 10 times their size in the San Francisco Bay Area. Her company merged with J. Rockcliff in 2008 and soon became one of the most powerful companies in the Bay Area?s real estate market reaching an unmatched share in the real estate market.

In August 2018, Joujou launched the Blackhawk Office of Compass, which excels in being on the cutting edge of technologies that support and facilitate real estate sales. A leader in the industry, her extensive knowledge of the real estate market has enabled her to reach more than $1.75 billion in sales and sell more than 1,450 homes from Piedmont, Orinda, Moraga, Lafayette, Walnut Creek and throughout the San Ramon Valley including Alamo, Danville, San Ramon, Dublin, Pleasanton, Livermore, and of course, Blackhawk.
