A deeper side of Palm Beach: A Conversation with Patricia Borja Interiors

Q. Palm Beach interiors have long been defined by lighter palettes. What inspired your shift toward deeper tones and a more layered design language?
Palm Beach has always had that light, sun washed look, and I’ve always loved that about it. But over time, I wanted to create spaces that feel more personal and intimate. Moving toward deeper tones and layered palettes felt like a natural shift, adding dimension and making rooms feel more collected and grounded.

I’ve also seen our clients leaning this way. They still appreciate the classic Palm Beach feel, but want something more unique, richer materials, bolder color, and elevated finishes that bring contrast while staying refined

Q. Do you believe this shift toward warmer, deeper interiors is defining the future of Palm Beach luxury?
I think it’s a natural evolution. Palm Beach design is moving beyond the traditional light and bright look into something more layered and nuanced. Warmer interiors bring comfort and individuality that people are drawn to right now.

It’s less about following a formula and more about creating spaces that feel personal and lasting, while that signature Palm Beach boldness remains, just in a more intentional way.

Q. There’s a beautiful balance between materials like wood, stone, and soft textiles. How do you curate these combinations without overwhelming the space?
It comes down to being intentional. I start with a cohesive palette and build from there, making sure each material has its moment without competing. Texture does a lot of the work, bringing in wood and stone for depth and balancing it with softer textiles to keep the space inviting.

It’s less about how many materials you use and more about how they’re layered. When it’s done well, it feels effortless and lived in.

Q. How do you layer architectural features and décor to make a statement?
I think of it as building a story within the space. I start with one strong defining element, whether that’s a sculptural light fixture, a ceiling detail, or a stone moment, to set the tone and create a focal point.

From there, it’s about adding layers that support it rather than compete. Ceiling treatments bring depth, lighting highlights key moments while creating mood, and natural materials like stone help ground the space. In the end, it’s all about balance and making everything feel connected while letting that standout element shine.

“Patricia’s approach ultimately definest a new direction for Palm Beach interiors, one that feels personal, layered, and enduring.”
