Design innovations transforming upscale interiors.

This season’s High Point Market has us energized and excited for what’s on the horizon for interior design in the new year. Local designers and our editorial team alike noticed trends relevant to our style, as well as re-imaginings of beloved materials and concepts, making home decoration in South Florida even more luxurious and inviting for aesthetes of all kinds.
Coastal goes Contemporary
One of the major takeaways of this season’s High Point Market was a strong shift in coastal design towards contemporary principles. We’re seeing elevated takes on this ever-popular aesthetic, from more subtle nods to the ocean that feature freeform shapes, such as in Phillips Collection’s elegant Cast Blue Onyx Bowl. We’re also noticing delicate yet clever reflections of sea life, found in pieces such as Arteriors’ Indi Large Chandelier. A minimalistic color palette relies on materiality and chic silhouettes to create visual interest, as found in Palecek’s Levine Coffee Table, which brings a more elemental, contemporary approach to coastal-inspired furniture design.

Fresh takes on French design
Barbara Lewis of Lewis Design Group fell in love with all things French-inspired at High Point this fall. The designer saw Tara Shaw’s new collection with Century Furniture as a highlight because the stunning French- and Gustavian-inspired pieces are traditional and pared back in terms of color palette, yet over scaled to suit the volume and grandeur of luxurious South Florida estates.
Proportion was also on her mind as she discovered French Market’s stunning digitally printed landscape murals which feature continuous designs spanning between 17-20 feet wide, offering an excellent value while still achieving an antique look. And if you’re not ready to take the leap with a mural that large, we’re swooning over Jamie Young Company’s Garland Side Table that will bring a touch of botanical beauty to your bedroom or seating area.

Mid-century Outside
Mid-century silhouettes are still as popular as ever, but we are noticing this style make a big statement out-of-doors. Adriana Hoyos’ Amazonika Collection offers the style we love with durability from water- and UV-resistant fabrics, Dekton surfaces, as well as highly resilient selke wood in a UV-coated lacquer for pieces that can withstand the intensity of South Florida weather.

Storage in the Spotlight
From bar and china cabinets to credenzas, case goods are getting some much-deserved design attention right now. We’re loving the femininity of The Bramble Company’s scalloped Chloe collection of customizable dressers, sideboards, bookcases, and more that have a time-honored feel along with the masculine details of House of Mercier’s natural Peruvian leather storage pieces. Oliver Home Furnishings’ Kent Bar Cabinet features burnished brass details, interior lighting, and multiple types of storage options to keep your cocktail gear beautifully organized and always ready for happy hour.

Rattan and Raffia, Reimagined
While these beloved natural fibers are nothing new to the design scene — especially in South Florida — Lewis was pleased to discover these popular materials used in new ways, such as in Modern History Furniture’s Palmetto Collection that adorns raffia papered furnishings with quartz and brass accents for a polished look. She’s also smitten with Ro Sham Beaux’s whimsical rattan lighting offerings, particularly the Avery or Victoria Chandelier.

Pattern Play on the Floor
The offerings from Hue & Dot, a new line from Mirth Studio, range from engineered hardwood flooring tiles painted in spirited patterns to handwoven wool kilim rugs and stair runners, all of which are completely customizable and easy to install. These decorative surfaces feature a variety of patterns from funky geometrics to block print-inspired florals that appeal to a range of aesthetic preferences.
“Their products have a light and airy look to them. They are lovely and contextual to the design aesthetic here,” Lewis says.
