San Francisco’s East Bay Presents the Historic Villa Del Sole in Castlewood Country Club on the Front Cover of Issue 6.1

Pleasanton, CA – February 25, 2019 – A mystical and unique property in the Castlewood County Club neighborhood, the Villa Del Sole brings color, flair, and history to Pleasanton. Originally built by renowned architect and former Castlewood Country Club owner John Marshall, and now with over 30 years of meticulous restoration, Joujou Chawla and her team bring this amazing property to market.

Villa Del Sole is a Mid-Century Post-Modern Masterpiece. This completely custom and pristine golf course estate was constructed in 1954 by John Marshall, who spent more than 25 years constructing Villa Del Sole as his private enclave on the former Hearst Ranch property in the exclusive Castlewood Country Club.

At almost two acres, this is one of the largest properties in Castlewood. This exclusive double-gated estate resonates with grandeur and elegance sprinkled with the whimsical charm of days gone by. The Park-like gardens embrace the 4,200 square-foot, single-level home that features four bedrooms, with three en suite, four bathrooms, formal rooms, family room with walk-around bar, eat-in kitchen, and a bedroom wing. There is an elevator to the two-car garage, and parking for more than 30 vehicles. Its hilltop location relishes glorious and sweeping views of surrounding ridge-lines, valleys, and rolling hillsides.

The Castlewood Country Club is a piece of history itself. George and Phoebe Hearst, parents of the publishing magnate, William Randolph Hearst, purchased and built the Hacienda del Pozo de Verona, which over time has become what we know today as Castlewood Country Club. Their estate, Hacienda del Pozo de Verona, was sold to a group of businessmen in 1924. They formed the first Castlewood Country Club and selected the name because it reflected the wooded hills and castle-like appearance of Phoebe’s home.

Today, Castlewood Country Club is considered a hidden gem, an oasis, the perfect getaway for our Members, their families, and guests. Our Members come for sport, laughter, and friendship.

Pleasanton is a major suburb identified by the U.S. Census as one of the wealthiest middle-sized cities in the nation and was included on Money Magazine’s list of the ’50 Best Cities to Live 2014’ and on 24/7 Wall Street’s list of ‘America’s 50 Best Cities to Live’. Pleasanton ranked #31 on Money’s annual list of the Best Places to Live, and #9 on the publication’s list of the Top Earning Towns in the nation. The rankings were determined on the basis of variables such as crime, education, employment growth, recreation, infrastructure, environment and housing affordability.
